SYMPATHY TOWER CARD

Hi there everyone,

This week's share is unfortunately another sympathy card for another dear friend. Hate having to make these cards, but because of the reason always feel that it needs to be a little special. I had seen a tutorial for a "tower" card from April, and I knew this would be the perfect idea for my friend, who also happens to be a stamper, who lost her dear husband last week.

I know my regulars must be getting fed up with this purple and green combination, but I still had more to use and I wanted to use the poppy die, in something other than red and black. So this is what I did ...

The card base is a textured purple/red, so I started with that - I cut mine from a piece of 12" x 12", which allowed me to do the 9" length x 5 1/2", which I personally think is easier. You can go back and see the measurements on the site that April showed in her blog.

I had entire (8 1/2" x 11") sheets of my "purple" and "green" Nuance sheets, done on glossy cardstock, so I cut three panels, 5 1/4" x 1 3/8" and one white panel for the sentiment. The sentiment was stamped in Versamark on the white panel and heat embossed with Concord. Leaving a big space for writing on the back side of the card.

These were then attached to the card base.

On to the "Kiss Cut Technique! Hope you've had a chance to look at the awesome video Demo Donna did for this. She explains things much better than I can!

Stick a piece of 2 1/2" Tear-ific Tape down on a piece of white cardstock. Here I am using the Memory Box Darling Poppies Die. Run it through the embossing machine, with the die edge into the Adhesive.

It is best to start with the darkest colors and work your way through to the lighter ones for this technique. So as in the photo above, I started with my darkest color, Celebration (GM2019). I then worked my way through the colors Purple Rain (2020), Luau Green (GM2004) and Orchid Rose (GM2016) till I got to the background color Cloud Nine (GM2000). I then die cut the image with the Spellbinder's Mega Ovals. This was layered to a piece of green cardstock, die cut from Spellbinder's Grand Ovals, embossed with Cuttlebug embossing Folder - A little Bit of Paisley. This would be my backing for the in lay technique. Here is the project flat from the front:

I cut up some Want To Scrap embellishments and added them to the corners as shown:

This is the side view. This was so much easier than I thought it would be. Totally love the results. Hope I've inspired you to try someone else's technique!

Hugs for now,

Shona

  10. I never get tired of seeing your work, no matter WHAT colors you choose! And I think this one is particularly a pretty combo. Works so nicely with the glittered flower too. Your friend will appreciate the skill involved in this pretty remembrance and I hope it brings her comfort too. It's good to have a caring friend such as yourself. TFS & Hugs
