Hi and Welcome to the Sparkle N Sprinkle
October New Reveal Blog Hop!
For my card today I chose to go with the cute Gus - Fish Whisperer Set 871. Here he is coming out of the river with his catch in the pouring rain. Gus reminds me of my eldest brother back in Scotland, who is a keen fisherman and will spend many an hour standing in the rain with a fishing pole!
We are now revealing our new stamp sets on the 15th of each month. On the first of the month, a new video kit club will be revealed.

Now on to my card! I placed a piece of white cardstock in my new Tim Holtz Platform and stamped Gus from the Fish Whisperer Set 871 in the Nuvo Hybrid Ink Acorn Brown. These inks are great, because they work with both alcohol and watercolor mediums without smearing.
I removed the lid (with the stamp) and set it aside while I colored in the image with Copics, while the image was kept in the same position on the platform.
Once the image was colored, I inked up Gus again, this time with the Nuvo Clear Mark and reattached the lid to the platform and stamped over the colored Gus image. This was then heat embossed with Clear Detail.
Here you can see the nice shiny, raised outline it gives to the stamp.
The Memento Desert Sand ink pad was then rubbed directly to a piece of cardstock before being cut out with the Spellbinders Cattails die.
Nuvo Acorn Brown ink was then rubbed over the die before being removed which gave the cattails their darker color.
A scrap of Super Adhesive Sheet was layered to a piece of gray cardstock and the clouds were die cut with with Spellbinders Inspire Rainy Day. I removed the protective backing and then Elephant Gray Flocking was burnished in to the sticky adhesive. This gave a fluffy look to the clouds.
Memento inks Summer Sky and London Fog were sponged around Gus for the rainy day background and then Nuvo Grey Mist Jewel Drops were added as the rain drops. Eyes, wellies and fish were then given a shine from Nuvo Crystal Drops Morning Dew.
The cattails were applied with the new Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive, and Buff Flocking was applied to give the cattails a fuzzy appearance.
The sentiment was stamped on Grey cardstock with Nuvo Clear Mark and then heat embossed with Sienna. This is a fine detail powder - perfect for sentiments. It was cut out using the Sizzix Framelits 661840 Die. The card front was centered to a piece of white cardstock edged with 1/4" Tear-ific Tape, Buff Flocking was burnished in around the exposed sticky edge. This was then layered on to a black card base. The sentiment was attached to the cardfront with mounting tape to finish off the card.
Here is a list of the Sparkle N Sprinkle products used on my card today:
Next on the hop is the super-talented Donna, who has put a different spin on our little Gus set! Make sure you comment on each of the Designers' blogs in order to be eligible to win all of these new Reveal sets. Good luck!

What a fun card design and at least Gus did not have a day without catching a fish. I love this stamp set for making fun masculine cards. My hubby is also a fisherman.
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing Shona. Love the dies you've added and your whole scene is so cute.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love this! It just made me giggle the moment it popped up !
ReplyDeleteI saw this stamp and I said I need this stamp! My fishing friends would get a kick out of this!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your secrets regarding the cat tails, Shona! I love that the Tails are fuzzy, and how you colored in the plants! As for fishing, I would enjoy it, too, in the rain, with fewer buggies bothering me - but that can only be done if there is no thunder (a sign of nearby lightning!). There is something peaceful about watching the rain hit the water, and I enjoy even watching it in my pool. Gus looks fabulous in his attire. I am in love with the new ink pads, and can hardly wait for the black one to come out! Really GREAT card, my "wee" Scottish friend! xx
ReplyDeleteReally fun card. Love all the fussy details and dimensional raindrops. Brilliant work!
ReplyDeleteSo much detail and so much fun! I love that he looks like your eldest brother. How cute is that !?! And, yes, that Clear Detail over the colored image really makes the lines pop, and really adds so much to the card. This card is gorgeous and it makes me laugh and smile. I love him fishing in the rain. Your cattails, clouds, and raindrops add so much texture and dimension too. Everything is exquisite!
ReplyDeleteWonderful that Gus reminds you of your eldest brother fishing in the rain and you used it for your wonderful card! I love the scene you have created, the fuzzy cattails and Gus does stand out more with the raised shiny outline.
