First of all I stamped it on white cardstock in Versamark, heat embossed with Gold Detail, then colored it in using watercolor paints.
I found it to be too bright for a sympathy card, so how to mute it? I stamped the image again in Versamark and heat embossed with Gold Detail on top of Vellum.
I taped the Vellum version exactly over the top of the colored image and attached them together using four little gold brads in each corner.
Below you can see how the colors show through behind the Vellum.
I added a little Dimensional Foam behind the sentiment before attaching it to the image with two larger gold brads. The entire piece was then attached to a 5" x 7" black card base with tape. A little gold ribbon was tied in a bow on the left side to finish off my card.
Hope you've liked my share today.
Till next time,
Shona
Shona this is a really thoughtful and VERY beautiful card, love the stamped image over the painted one, this will be treasured I'm sure. Beautiful colouring too.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous!! I love the look of vellum and now I have to go and try this beautiful technique.
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous and so lovely for such a solemn occasion. Like you, it seems I am using lots of sympathy cards this year. And many are people my age. So guess I have reached that point in life where I will see lots of friends slip away until we meet again later in Heaven.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful card, perfect for the sad occasion. I love how you've personalised it choosing a bee in the image. xx
ReplyDeleteSympathy cards always present a challenge, especially if you don't want to go with a real somber color scheme. I think you've aced this one, with the gold embossing and covering the brighter colored panel with the vellum. It softened the look so well, but yet still kept the tone of the card from being dreary (if that makes sense). It's beautiful, and what a good idea to use the watercolors over the gold embossing. It's very elegant the way you've finished off with the vellum. And thoughtful to add in the bee. TFS
ReplyDeleteIts Beautiful..elegant and gold embossing gives it rich look .Good idea to use vellum to tone down the bright colors !
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your friend, Shona - but what a great save! Beautiful either way, the vellum is very elegant and peaceful. Thank you for this idea, and for sharing about how to emboss on the vellum to match it up to the image behind it! Gorgeous! hugs, de
