GEARED-UP FOR A GREAT BIRTHDAY!

Hi everyone,

I'm back today with a quick post of a card I sent to my brother-in-law for his 60th.  Paul loves to alter objects. We recently visited his studio down in Amissville, Virginia and he was altering an old gynecologist's examination table into a kitchen island table.  Well, I'm almost sure the buyers won't know it's original purpose!! Were he a card maker he would definitely be into Steam Punk - let's just leave it at that, shall we??!!

Here's the table that he is repurposing:

He just loves gears and metals! Here is a photo of a painting that he has recently completed. Note the still life that he put together to paint from!

Yes, I know - nuts right? (no - bolts too!)

Anyway back to the card! I had this background which I had made a while back - which involved gears with metallic colors and I thought that would be perfect for him!

I took the plastic TCW Mini Gears Stencil (262s) and taped it down to a piece of black cardstock. I applied Dreamweaver Translucent embossing paste and then after removing the stencil I applied both Shazam and Abracadabra (separately) before heat embossing the entire background.

h

The Happy Birthday is a Die Versions Die Cut (DVJ-081) cut out of white card stock to which I applied Versamark ink and then heat embossed with Copper Dreams. To make it look a little more rusted and worn, I added some more Versamark and then sprinkled on some Magic Speckle and heat embossed with the heat tool from underneath (to stop the powder from flying all over - which it will do if you heat from the top - just saying!) Love that look - I mean the rusted look - not the powder flying all over the place!

I had the self-adhesive numerical silver stickers in my stash, so trying to keep the card with the metallic look, I stuck them in the space of the cog. The background was attached to black cardstock (which is white on the inside). Happy Birthday was attached with Dimensional Foam and the card was complete.

Happy 60th Paul!

I'd like to enter this card in the Scrapy Land Challenge: No. 22 - Vintage/Steam Punk

Hope you've enjoyed stopping by today.

Hugs,

Shona

GlITTERED GEARED FATHER'S DAY CARD

Hi there,

Today I'm sharing a Father's Day card, using one of the Dreamweaver Stencils, some opaque metallic glitters, sticker paper and embossing powders.

First I rubbed some Hawaiian soap to the back of the Gears stencil, and then placed a piece of sticker paper over the top of the soap. You have to apply the soap to the stencil, otherwise you will not be able to separate the stencil from the sticker paper.

I used a little glitter spoon to direct the glitter to each of the gears. I started with Fantasy Gold, then used Burnt Orange, Bronze Splendor and lastly Copper Jewel.

I then peeled the sticker paper from the stencil and covered the remaining sticky surface with Semi-Transparent Celestial glitter. I taped the background to a piece of rust cardstock.

I cut out some Spellbinders Gears from white cardstock. Three parts of the gears were used in my card. I applied Versamark and then heat set three of the different gear pieces with Verdigris, Golden Follies and Pebbled Copper.

I blinged the brad with Detail Gold embossing powder. The sentiment from the Fishin' with Dad set was stamped in Versamark and heat embossed with Sienna, one of the detailed Tuscan embossing powders. I then fussy cut it into a banner shape.

After the card front was layered to natural cardstock, the gears and sentiment were attached with dimensional dots to finish off the card.

Who says Dad's Day cards can't be a little sparkly? Thanks for stopping by.

Playful Pandas

Hi there,

Just a quick post this morning, with another Asian card.  I decided to use the cute Panda stamp from Sparkle N Sprinkle, to make a masculine birthday card for an "older" Gentleman!  I recently picked up the Darice Bamboo embossing folder, which I love.  So that is what I used for my background.

I also used Sparkle N Sprinkle's Cloud Nine (Velvet Glitter) for the panda's white fur.  Unfortunately you can't feel it through the computer, but it is glitter with a fuzzy feel.  It's so versatile - check out the Tips and Techniques Section of Sparkle N Sprinkle, scroll down to Glitter - Velvet, to see some of the ways the designers have used it!

Here's the card, and the link to my gallery, if you need full directions:

Hope you're having a good day.  I'm off to hopefully put a dent in my Christmas cards!

The Best Lie

Good Morning,

Well here is the third of my Golf Cards, that I was working on last week. Scroll down to see the first two, if you haven't seen them already. Again trying for a humorous, masculine card, I used images from Sparkle N Sprinkle's Golf Set 189 - Green Pastures and Mustang Sally from Set 283 - Cars - Clyde.

Here is what I came up with:

I edged the card with our new "Velvet" Microfine glitter - Lator Gator,  just to give our Glitzy Golfer a little masculine bling!  These glitters are the latest product that Sparkle N Sprinkle has come out with.  They are gorgeously velvety, and they are available in 11 different colors, for now.

So this is the last of my Golfing Trio!

I'm off to play some more with those Velvet Glitters.  Lator Gator!!

It's a Hole in One!!

So here is the second, of my three Golf cards.  If you scroll down, you'll see the first one!  Still on a roll with the humorous masculine cards using one of the fun Golf Sets from Sparkle N Sprinkle.  I used Embossable Acetate for the window and did a masculine looking background for the wallpaper!

I put a droplet of black Staz-On reinker to replicate a cracked window and used a toothpick to make the cracks.  When it was dry I punched a hole in the center.

Full details are right here.

The "Not So Macho Masculine" Card Blog Hop

Welcome to the Sparkle N Sprinkle "Not So Macho Masculine" Card Blog Hop.  If you are anything like me, meaning you cringe every time you have to make a masculine card, then you are in for a treat this month!  This month all the sports, vehicles and school stamp sets are on sale, just in time for Father's Day creations.  If you got here by way of the SNS Home Page then you are heading for a field goal!  If you came directly to me, go back to home plate here at SNS to get all the information you need to be eligible to win a stamp set of your choice and 13 different designer choice goodies!

Throughout my life, I've always been surrounded with sports. Actually, I can't think of many that I haven't tried (well OK. I don't do skydiving, but then I really don't think that should be considered a sport - more like a suicide aid!!).  I grew up with three brothers; enough said!  My Dad is a very keen and reasonably proficient (I would say) golfer.  I met my hubby playing coed softball and my 11 year old is not happy unless there is some kind of sport ball at his finger-tips or toes!  So for me, when I heard masculine theme, I just had to go with Sports.

So for the SNS masculine Blog Hop I decided to highlight Set 257 - Baseball and Basketball.  I have a soon-to-be 11 year old, (next Monday, actually) and his birthday present is going to be a basketball hoop!  Hopefully he'll like the card too!  So, here is my first card, Slam Dunk!

When my hubby and I met, I was the pitcher on the team!  So, I think I'll strike him out again!  Here is my Father's Day card.  For this one I used three of my favorite Sparkle N Softs!  I used Irish Sparkle (for the grass), Blissful Blue (for the sky) and Sparkling Sands (of course for the mound).  Just stick a piece of Tear-ific Tape down and apply the different Sparkle N Softs and you have an instant background!  My personal give-away to add to the Grand Prize today is Irish Sparkle.  Remember to leave a comment at the bottom of each of the blogs and at the home blog to increase your chances of winning!

And for my final card, I thought to incorporate one of SNS's new avenues!  Lately, Sparkle N Sprinkle has been attending Scrapbooking Conventions, so we've been giving a lot more thought to how to incorporate our products in the Scrapbooking World!  Our designers have been been busy showing some fun things to do with photographs, using our embossing powders, glitters and lately, the Copic markers.

I personally love to play with our Embossable Acetate, and that is what I have used in the creation of my final card for you today.  I call it "embossing painting".  You paint the embossable acetate with a Versamarker pen and then "color in" with an Opaque embossing powder.  Layer it over a black and white photograph - e voila!  Click here for complete instructions for this card.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing my projects!  Don't forget - leave a comment here (to increase your chances of winning) and then slide on over to Eleanor to see what she has in the second inning for you!
